Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) was set up in 1963 by the Government of India as an Institution with a focus on professionalizing the country’s foreign trade management and increasing exports by developing human resources, analyzing and disseminating data and conducting research. Since its inception, the Institute has evolved and undergone major transformations and has, over the years, broadened the scope and dimensions of its academic activity that now encompasses the full spectrum of international business. Today, the Institute is widely renowned for its extensive knowledge and resource base, with rich heritage and strong alumni network both in India and abroad across various domains and verticals of businesses.
IIFT has one of the most rigorous curriculums and has always been the second ranked institute in India in terms of pedagogy. 1460 hours of course-work, along with regular presentations, quizzes and assignments make it one of the most intensive curriculums in the country. Courses with an international focus are offered as core courses along with a mandatory foreign language course. IIFT also hosts guest faculty from the industry as part of the curriculum. In the second year, a student takes up 10 electives. 4 in a domain gives a student a Major, while 2 in a domain gives a student a Minor. IIFT offers a Major in Finance, Marketing, Operations and Trade with Minors in Strategy and IT with additional focus on International aspect of each course.
IIFT is the only B-School with a mandatory visit to a sea port to get a first-hand experience of the system. It helps students understand the application of the knowledge they have gained over the preceding three trimesters and relate it to the curriculum. IIFT has collaborations with more than 27 Universities/ B-schools throughout the world leading to international exposure via student and faculty exchange programmes.
