IIFT Economics Conclave 2025

The Economics Division organized IIFT Economics Conclave 2025 on “India in the New Economic Order: Adapting to Macroeconomic Uncertainties and Global Trade Shocks” on 5th December 2025. A keynote address by Padma Bhushan Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, former Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission offered a comprehensive analysis of India's macroeconomic evolution, the country's resilience amid global disruptions and the structural reforms essential for sustaining long-term growth.

The first session with the theme “Adapting to Global Trade Shocks” featured eminent speakers including Prof. C. Veeramani (Director, Centre for Development Studies), Prof. Dibyendu Maiti (Professor, Delhi School of Economics), Prof Manoj Pant (Former Vice Chancellor, IIFT) and Prof. Rakesh Mohan Joshi (Vice Chancellor, IIFT). The session focused on India's exposure to global trade shocks and challenges from new protectionist measures.

 

The second session with the theme “Resilience and Path to Recovery in the face of Macroeconomic Uncertainty” featured eminent economists including Prof. Chetan Ghate (Member, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister and Professor, Indian Statistical Institute Delhi), Prof. M. Govinda Rao (Former Director of National Institute of Public Finance and Policy), Prof. Pami Dua (Member, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister and Former Director, Delhi School of Economics), Prof. Sudipto Mundle (Former Director, Asian Development Bank). The session discussed macroeconomic strategies for economic resilience, policy agility, trade partnership diversification, and global economic governance participation.

The valedictory session was chaired by Prof. S. Mahendra Dev Chairman, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister and the Valedictory address was delivered by Prof. Ashima Goyal (Professor Emeritus, Indira Gandhi Institute of Development and Research, Mumbai). The concluding remarks were given by Prof. Rakesh Mohan Joshi (Vice Chancellor, IIFT).

The conclave attracted participants from across India, underscoring IIFT's role as a premier platform for economic policy discourse.
