As a distinctive feature of select Management Development Programmes (MDPs), IIFT Kolkata organises study tours to provide participants with first-hand exposure to industry operations. These visits may include packhouses, ports, food processing units, logistics hubs, and other key business facilities, depending on the programme theme.
The objective is to bridge classroom learning with real-world business practices, allowing participants to observe operational processes, quality control measures, compliance standards, and technological applications in action.
At packhouses, participants gain insights into grading, packaging, and export readiness for agricultural products. Visits to ports offer an understanding of cargo handling, customs clearance, and global trade logistics. Food processing units showcase value addition, supply chain integration, and safety protocols critical for domestic and export markets.
These tours often include guided interactions with plant managers, port authorities, and technical staff, enabling participants to clarify operational challenges and explore best practices.
By integrating study tours into the MDP structure, IIFT Kolkata ensures a practical, immersive learning experience that strengthens managerial decision-making and enhances participants’ appreciation of India’s trade and industry ecosystem.
